I am so excited to be teaching "Fundamentals of Acting" at Nazareth College this semester! I cannot wait to be back at my alma mater.
This course is a beginning acting class that all freshman students in the Theatre and Musical Theatre programs are required to take, so my class will have musical theatre majors, tech theatre majors, and BA Theatre majors.
I've started my research and planning for the course, including going back through my original notes from taking Fundamentals of Acting as a freshman and reading An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski. I love doing deep dives and want to make sure I'm not just doing "what we've always done" solely because "that's how it's always been done," so along with discussing acting methods with peers and mentors, I'm also reading The Stanislavski System by Sonia Moore and An Actress Prepares by Rosemary Malague, as well as articles from Howlround and lots of plays to determine which scenes we will use for our studies.
Although I anticipate some adjustments due to the pandemic, I am so excited to build a safe, supportive classroom for these students as they begin their college experience!
